spring sale
I have a lot of new fibres and yarns I want to get dyed and listed in the shop, so I thought I'd have a little sale to make some space for it. So from now until the end of the day next Sunday May 6th, there will be free shipping (!) on all orders. Just use coupon code SPRINGSALE at checkout.
The skein above is 'Terra' on merino nylon fingering (75% superwash merino, 25% nylon). This is a great (soft yet durable) yarn for socks, shawls, light sweaters, etc. Perfect for spring knitting. I've lowered the price on this base as well.
Hope you're having a great weekend.

the mighty sock
When I'm not knitting socks I tend to forget the instantaneous and forceful grip a sock project has on me once started. I have 3 socks on needles at the moment and I'm itching to cast on another. I know. It's a sickness.
I'm also teaching an Advanced Socks class at Wolseley Wool next month (info here), so if you're in Wpg and want to sit around discussing 'sock issues' I'd love to see you.
Happy Friday!

sweater: post-spun, pre-knit
I've been spinning for a sweater the last few weeks, using Northboundknitting bfl in ‘Lake Oastler’, which is one of my favourite colour combinations of all time. I started with 20 oz and spun a 2-ply yarn, getting approx. 1200 yds of light worsted/ dk weight. It will be a pullover, as soon as I have some time to knit it up. The idea's sketched out and has lived in my head for several months, so I hope I can do this yarn justice.
Happy weekend.

another crafty diversion
On Monday night my fabulous friend Odessa taught us how to crochet granny squares. My crochet skills before now have been limited, to say the least. Like limited to chain stitch button loops. Or the first few stitches of an otherwise knit shawl. But I've always wanted to learn more. A lot more. So now I'm on the road.
And trying to ignore the calculation that 1 square @ 4"x4" means I need 18 x 18 = 324 squares for a still-smallish blanket for the girl. She has a double bed. This could be a tv watching blanket instead, I'm thinking.
Hope you have a happy Easter / Passover!

new sock design
Pattern: mine
Yarn: Lioness Arts King of the Jungle in 'Forget Me Not'
This sock design is something I've been working on lately and I'm super happy with how they turned out. I love circles and curves in general, and this motif and these socks are going to be part of an ebook collection I'm planning (hoping for a fall release), along with 2 sweater patterns, a hat, and a scarf. All will be in handdyed, and some also in handspun, yarns from some of my favourite dyers. I'm really excited about it.
Hope you're having a good weekend, peeps.
